“One of my most vivid childhood memories is admiring the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok while walking with my father alongside the Chao Phraya River. I was deeply honored to have been entrusted with the creation of LIGHT OF BANGKOK, an Eau de Parfum that marks the 150th anniversary of this majestic Hotel. I envisioned the scent as a reflection of its elegance and hospitality, drawing inspiration from its graceful architecture and its signature color, Celadon Green. With that serene hue in mind, I paired sparkling lemongrass, a plant treasured in Thailand, with velvety orris butter, a cornerstone of French perfumery. The luminous freshness is amplified by bergamot and clary sage, the floral heart of jasmine and ylang-ylang pays further tribute to Thailand, while the woody, airy base comprises sandalwood, vetiver and musk.”

Light of Bangkok is a fragrance that beautifully captures both the elegance of a luxury hotel and the distinctive character of Thailand, making it a fitting tribute to the 150th anniversary collaboration with Mandarin Oriental Bangkok.

The fragrance opens with a fresh and luminous blend of bergamot and clary sage. Lemongrass, a familiar scent in Thailand, soon joins the composition, adding a refreshing citrusy and subtly herbal nuance. Although lemongrass has a distinctive character, it remains gentle and refined, with only a hint of green freshness. Rather than evoking the bustling streets of Bangkok, it recalls the calm sophistication of a luxury hotel spa. This opening also brings to mind the Chao Phraya River near the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, illuminated by Thailand’s radiant sunlight.

In the heart notes, ylang-ylang and jasmine—plants commonly found in Thailand—emerge softly. Their role remains supportive, lending a delicate floral sweetness reminiscent of flower nectar, without the overwhelming intensity often associated with jasmine in Thailand. Orris butter adds a subtle sweetness and smoothness, enhancing the fragrance’s elegant texture. On my skin, the fresh clarity of clary sage and the distinctive lemongrass linger quietly, maintaining a calm and refined character.

As the fragrance settles, musk and sandalwood gently anchor the composition, blending smoothly into the skin. Even during the drydown, traces of the fresh top notes remain, leaving a graceful and airy impression until the very end.

Light of Bangkok is a quiet and elegant fragrance defined by its citrus freshness. It evokes the light, air, and tranquility of Thailand, as well as the refined atmosphere of a luxury hotel.
