CONCEPT

Tan-staR (Purinut Karchai) is a new-generation artist whose works blend digital and craft with a distinctive charm that feels both whimsical and haunting. His signature world, Spooky Punk, captures the playful side of the eerie, turning what seems frightening into something unexpectedly heartwarming.

At the center of this world are Little Batzy, a child vampire born from a strange experiment, and his mischievous black cat companion, See-Ew. Unlike legends of blood and fangs, Batzy prefers his glass of tomato juice, crimson and gleaming like the midnight moon. This unusual craving becomes the soul of his scent: a Tomato Juice Accord that rises fresh and tangy, wrapped in metallic notes that echo the spark of Frankenstein’s lab. The chill of iron slowly fuses with leather, stitching together the duality of Batzy’s being, half-monster and half-child.

Yet beneath the eerie exterior lies sweetness. A playful veil of candied cinnamon recalls the spirit of childhood, where mischief and innocence intertwine. See-Ew’s presence drifts in with smoky traces of incense and the quiet spice of clove, as though she carries with her the echoes of old rituals whispered in the dark.

Together, Little Batzy and See-Ew are more than companions; they are the ringleaders of a spectral gang. With grins sharp yet kind, they gather wandering spirits weighed down by sorrow, vengeance, or loneliness, and turn their grief into laughter. What once festered as rage transforms into joy, as though the pair were handing out candies made of starlight and smoke. It is little wonder, then, that a playful trace of candied sweetness lingers in their wake, woven gently into the fragrance itself.

As the fragrance deepens, the ground beneath their steps exhales with vetiver’s earthy breath, while labdanum smolders like glowing embers, anchoring the tale in warmth and mystery. What begins as a burst of tomato brightness evolves into a tapestry of leather, spice, and resin, shifting between lighthearted play and solemn darkness.

This is not merely a perfume, but the essence of Spooky Punk itself: whimsical yet haunting, innocent yet eerie, stitched together from iron and leather, smoke and sweetness. To wear it is to step beside Little Batzy and See-Ew, the spectral ringleaders who turn pain into play, into a world where the macabre turns tender and every shadow carries a crooked smile.

THOUGHTS

Inspired by the world of Spooky Punk, centered around Little Batzy — a child vampire who loves tomato juice — and his mischievous black cat companion, See-Ew, this fragrance unfolds as a playful scent with a fascinating duality. True to its whimsical yet eerie concept, Spooky Punk reveals two contrasting personalities. I was particularly surprised by how dramatically the fragrance differs between the blotter and my skin.

On the blotter, the opening is marked by a distinctive green freshness, where the scent of tomato juice — Little Batzy’s favorite drink — immediately emerges. A subtle metallic nuance accompanies it, evoking the strange experiment from which Little Batzy was born, adding an imaginative and slightly eerie atmosphere. Gradually, the fragrance becomes wrapped in a sweet, cinnamon-candy-like warmth. While the green nuance of tomato juice remains, the scent softens into something gentler and more comforting. Even for someone like me, who does not usually gravitate toward green fragrances, the transition feels smooth and inviting.

Hints of incense and clove then begin to appear, creating a faint smokiness that adds a ghostly presence, as if drifting through the Spooky Punk universe itself. Slowly, labdanum emerges, bringing warmth and depth as the fragrance gently moves toward its final phase.

On my skin, however, the fragrance tells a different story. While there is still a touch of green in the opening, the sharpness is softened, and the tomato note surprisingly takes on a melon-like character. Whether this is due to my skin chemistry or the heat of midsummer, I’m not entirely sure, but I find this transformation equally appealing. Both the scent itself and its intriguing duality perfectly reflect the playful concept behind Spooky Punk.

As mentioned earlier, the scent can differ significantly between blotter and skin, so I would highly recommend trying it directly on your skin. This fascinating contrast is part of what makes Spooky Punk such a unique and captivating fragrance.
