Steam rises from an earthen pot.
The air fills with the scent of herbs and spices, chili, galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, and culantro mingling with the warmth of smoke and broth.
Together they create an aroma of comfort that follows no fixed recipe.

Around the pot, warmth gathers from familiar faces.
Laughter and conversation blend with the rising heat,
shaping a small space where time seems to slow.
The fragrance of herbs gently seeps into the air,
like traces of togetherness, simple yet alive.

Honpot reimagines Thai herbs through a Western fougère structure,
a meeting of two worlds that do not attempt to overpower one another,
but quietly merge in a rhythm that feels natural.

It is a scent of connection

between roots and culture that continue to breathe.
A reminder that Thainess is not found in rituals or definitions,
but in the moments when we are truly together.

This is a fougère that leaves behind lavender and bergamot,
embracing galangal, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaf instead,

THOUGHTS

Honpot is an intriguing fragrance that takes inspiration from the experience of gathering around a hot pot, interpreting Thai herbs through the lens of a fougère composition. I was initially a little concerned that the distinctive character of Thai herbs might be too pronounced, but once I tried it on my skin, I found it surprisingly subtle and easy to wear.

The opening is fresh, green, and invigorating, with notes of cilantro, lemongrass, and lime. On a blotter, the cilantro stands out quite prominently, evoking the unmistakable aroma of fresh coriander leaves. On my skin, however, the fragrance takes on a more refreshing character, allowing the crisp, aromatic quality of the herbs to shine through. It feels bright and revitalizing without being overly sharp.

As the fragrance develops, the spicy nuances of galangal begin to emerge alongside the aroma of basil. Despite its Thai herbal inspiration, the scent is not as pungent or intense as the aromas associated with Thai cuisine. Instead, it develops a clean, almost soapy quality that lends the composition a sense of freshness and refinement. On a blotter, the spicy, distinctly Thai character of the herbs is a little more pronounced, yet even there, the fragrance retains its clean and polished feel.

In the dry-down, earthy notes of patchouli, oakmoss, and vetiver blend with musk, settling beautifully into the skin. The transition is smooth and harmonious, giving the fragrance a soft, grounded finish that feels natural and well balanced.

Honpot softens the traditional fougère style, creating a warm, comforting fragrance that evokes the image of people gathering around a steaming hot pot. It is a versatile, gender-neutral scent that balances the distinctive character of Thai herbs with an approachable, clean finish. As someone who is not particularly fond of the aromas of Thai cuisine, I initially approached a fragrance inspired by Thai herbs with some hesitation. However, while Honpot retains a touch of their unique character, it is far more wearable than I expected. It offers an interesting interpretation of Thai herbs without allowing their pungency to overwhelm the composition.

JAPANESE SUMMARY

Honpotは、火鍋を囲むひとときにインスピレーションを得て、タイのハーブをフゼア調に仕立てた、個性的で興味深い香水です。タイのハーブ特有のクセが強く出ているのではないかと少し心配していましたが、実際に肌に纏ってみると、想像していたほどクセは強くなく、意外なほど使いやすい香りだと感じました。

トップノートでは、シラントロやレモングラス、ライムによる、爽やかで青々とした香りが広がります。ムエットでは、シラントロのパクチーを思わせる独特の香りがかなり強く感じられます。一方、肌の上ではその個性がやや和らぎ、ハーブの清涼感が前面に出てきます。すっきりとした爽やかさが心地よく、気分をリフレッシュさせてくれるような香りです。

時間が経つにつれて、ガランガルのスパイシーなニュアンスやバジルの香りが徐々に顔を出します。タイのハーブをテーマにした香水ですが、タイ料理を思わせるような強烈なクセがあるわけではありません。むしろ、石鹸を思わせる清潔感のある香りへと変化していきます。ムエットでは、肌の上よりもタイのハーブ特有のスパイシーで個性的な香りが強く感じられますが、それでも清潔感はしっかりと保たれています。

ラストノートでは、パチョリ、オークモス、ベチバーの土を思わせる落ち着いた香りにムスクが重なり、肌に美しく馴染んでいきます。ハーブの爽やかさから、徐々に深みのあるアーシーな香りへと移り変わることで、全体に穏やかで自然なまとまりが生まれています。

Honpotは、伝統的なフゼアの骨格を柔らかく仕立てた、温かみのある香水です。火鍋の湯気を囲みながら、みんなで食卓を囲むような、どこか親しみやすく心地よい雰囲気を感じさせます。性別を問わず楽しめる、バランスの取れた香りだと思います。

タイ料理の香りがあまり得意ではない私は、タイのハーブを使った香水と聞いて、少し身構えてしまいました。しかし、実際に纏ってみると、ハーブ特有の個性を残しながらも、クセが強くなりすぎない絶妙なバランスに仕上がっています。タイのハーブらしさを楽しみつつ、日常にも取り入れやすい香水です。
